The Data (Use and Access) Bill: Preparing for the UKs Data Protection Reforms
The Data (Use and Access) Bill (DUAB) is the latest attempt to reform the UK General Data Protection Act (UK GDPR) and Privacy and Electronic Communications (PECR).
The DUAB draws heavily from the previous government's Data Protection and Digital Information Bill (DPDIB), proposing, among other things:
• A new legal basis for processing personal data
• Amendments to the UK GDPR's rules on international data transfers and automated decision-making, and data subject rights
• A structural and significant reform of the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
• New rules on cookies and similar technologies
With more time to legislate and a stronger majority, the UK's current government is in a stronger position than its predecessor to push through its data protection reforms.
The course will help you prepare for the UK's new data protection regime, ensuring you are ready to meet the law's requirements and helping you leverage the changes intended to simplify compliance.
By the end of this workshop you will be able to: • Position your organisation to leverage the changes to the UK's data protection and privacy framework, Explain the changes that could be required across different parts of your organisation, Be prepared in advance for the changes that could impact your day-to-day work as a data protection professional.
Key Topics
- • Understand the differences between the DUAB and the UK's previous data protection reform attempts
- • Explore the proposed changes to key compliance requirements

I learned so much! The course was just the right balance of theory and practical, and was very well delivered.

The course was very useful as an IG Officer. The trainer was knowledgeable and explained some complex aspects of the legislation using interesting examples and real life scenarios. As a refresher, even with lots of work experience behind me, it was very useful to undertake the Practitioner course. The course materials and handbook are invaluable and I know I will re-use them in conjunction with my usual resources.

A very practical and all-encompassing coverage of the UK GDPR provided over 4 days. Although 4 days is not enough time to cover this whole subject in depth, there was just enough covered with further resources and links provided within the sessions to cover all aspects of the GDPR to a level at which I now feel a lot more confident in my role. Thank you, Kirsty!
